Baptistery of St. Lydia

Nestled along the banks of the river where tradition says St. Paul baptized Lydia, the Baptistery of Saint Lydia of Philippi commemorates the first recorded Christian baptism in Europe. Lydia, a merchant from Thyatira, embraced the Gospel after hearing Paul preach in Philippi, opening the door to the growth of Christianity across the continent.
