Preparation Guide
Dear Pilgrims,
To help you prepare for your Camino de Santiago journey, we have compiled essential recommendations for training, packing, and making the most of your pilgrimage experience.

Before the Camino: Training & Preparation
To fully enjoy your pilgrimage, we recommend preparing in advance. Consult your doctor or trainer to ensure you are fit for the journey.
Suggested Training Plan:
- Walk 2-3 hours, 2-3 times per week to build endurance.
- Wear the same hiking boots or shoes during training that you plan to use on the Camino.
- Invest in comfortable, well-fitted hiking boots or walking shoes to prevent blisters and discomfort.

Packing Essentials
Backpack & Daily Essentials
Your main luggage will remain on the motorcoach, so you will need a small backpack for daily essentials, including:
✔ Mobile phone & personal documents
✔ Money (cash & cards)
✔ Water & snacks
✔ First-aid items (blister pads, any required medication)
✔ Hat, sunscreen & sunglasses
✔ Light raincoat & an extra pair of socks
Hiking Boots & Footwear
- Wear well-broken-in hiking boots or comfortable walking shoes with good support.
- Choose moisture-wicking socks to reduce the risk of blisters.

Walking on the Camino
Pacing & Group Rhythm
- Each pilgrim is free to walk at their own pace.
- The Camino is well-marked with yellow arrows guiding the way.
- The tour escort will walk with the slowest pilgrims to ensure no one is left behind.
- Faster walkers can proceed to the next stop and wait for the group.
- At any intersections without clear Camino markings or at designated bus stops, it is advisable to pause and wait for guidance.
Estimated Walking Time: Approximately 1 hour per 3-4 km.

Do You Prefer to Walk and Take the Bus When Needed?
- At each designated stop, the motorcoach will be available for those who prefer to continue the journey by bus.
- However, some sections of the route may not be accessible by bus or taxi. In these cases, pilgrims should be prepared to walk 1-2 km to the nearest pick-up point.
Assistance & Flexibility
- The tour escort will provide their cell phone number to all participants for easy contact if assistance is needed.
- Pilgrims are free to rest, pause, or take their time at any point along the route.

Non-Walking Pilgrims
For those who prefer not to walk long distances, the tour escort will provide a wonderful experience, including:
- Visiting historic villages and cultural landmarks.
- Enjoying free time for shopping and exploring local cuisine.
- Strolling along short sections of the Camino at a relaxed pace.

Water Safety
- Always buy bottled water and avoid drinking from fountains unless clearly marked “AGUA POTABLE” (Drinking Water).

Pilgrim’s Credential & Compostela Certificate
Pilgrim’s Card (Credencial del Peregrino):
- Must be stamped daily at the start, during, and at the end of each stage.
- Pilgrims who walk the last 100 km can present their stamped card at the Pilgrim’s Office in Santiago de Compostela to receive the Compostela Certificate.
