Use the local currency of each country on your itinerary. France, Italy, Portugal, Spain, and several other European destinations use the euro, but not every European country does. Do not rely on U.S. dollars being accepted. Carry a modest amount of local cash for small purchases, donations, and locations that do not accept cards.
